  1. THE TALE OF TWO MIRACLES
    Wes Stephenson

    All alone she paced the hallway,
    Shuffling slippers ‘cross the floor;
    Glancing first down at her timepiece,
    Then again back toward the door.

    She wrung her hands so tensely
    As the eleventh hour passed;
    She wondered when her children
    Would arrive at home at last.

    She knelt beside her armchair,
    In prayer she made her plea;
    “Protect them as they travel
    ‘Til they’re safely home with me.”

    On a highway that late hour
    As a trucker hauled his load,
    All the driving made him drowsy
    And he drifted ‘cross the road.

    And the worried woman’s children
    Were riding in the car
    That was totaled by the trucker
    Who had driven just too far.

    Yet the kids escaped uninjured
    And gave their mom a call;
    She was sure her prayer was answered,
    And she knelt there in the hall.

    She prayed once more to Heaven
    As the tears fell from her face;
    Words can’t tell the gratitude
    Of one who’s in her place.

    But as she shuffled to her bedroom
    With a feeling so sublime,
    Her timepiece started spinning
    And it sent her back in time.

    Once again she paced the hallway,
    As the eleventh hour passed.
    She wondered when her children
    Would arrive at home at last.

    She knelt beside her armchair,
    In prayer she made her plea;
    “Protect them as they travel
    ‘Til they’re safely home with me.”

    On a highway that late hour,
    As a trucker hauled his load,
    Something whispered to him gently,
    “Pull it off beside the road.”

    Though he thought he still could make it,
    And though he didn’t quite know why,
    He pulled onto the shoulder
    As a car came passing by.

    With the trucker set in slumber,
    The kids made their return
    To a frantic, worried mother,
    With eyes that seemed to burn.

    With a satisfactory scolding,
    She sent them off the bed,
    And she shuffled to her bedroom
    Where not a single “thanks” was said.

    Yet a miracle HAD happened;
    (Though unknown to human mind),
    Miraculously God blesses us
    With gifts of every kind.

    When we count up all the blessings
    Our Father in Heaven has wrought,
    We should think again of the many times
    He’s blessed and not been caught.
